To touch is be touched

Valentine Editions「HANDS」の主旨にはひとこと「To touch is be touched」と説明されている。そんな中、今年の春、四方幸子先生の書籍『Ecosophic Art』をストーリーズに投稿したとき、ドイツのPh.D. Sandra Köstlerさんが、ジェームズ・ブライドルの本『Ways of Being: Animals, Plants, Machines: The Search for a Planetary Intelligence』を取り上げて反応してくれたことがあった。どちらの本も人新世と呼ばれる現代と未来における自然界と人間の在り方、後者はそれらとAIとの関わりが書かれているはず。僕の名が付記されたValentine Editionsの写真（ソーシャルメディアで共同投稿されたもの）に、サンドラさんとサンドラさんのワークショップThe Space Labがリアクションを示してくれていたのはきっとWays of Seeingで、人と植物についておおまかにイメージしてくれたのだろうなと勝手に想像。

以前の「ROCK」のように、将来「HANDS」は紙媒体化されてロンドンのブックフェアなどに出展されるだろう。僕のはそれに含まれないかもしれない。キュレーターのクリスティーン (Christine Serchia) さんには、この写真はカラーフィルムの現像時にローラーの痕が残った低クオリティの古いスキャン画像を白黒変換したもので、むしろノイズを乗せることを考えたと最初にお伝えしてあった。クリスティーンさんからは別途「私たちにとってとても重要なリレーションシップについてのデザインワーク」と謳うアカウントからフォローして頂いた。

The Olympic games opened on July 23. But I haven’t been vaccinated yet. Vaccination for the coronavirus has been delayed in Japan.

アメリカ・オレゴン州のJennifer Timmer Trailさんによって、パンデミック下の全世界の写真をアーカイブしようという目的で創設されたCovid Pictures（過去記事）。今回は「Tokyo 2020」から5枚がCovid Picturesに追加されました。内訳は、今年の4月末にオリンピックのバナーが掲示されていた東京郊外の街、そのオリンピックの中止を訴える医療機関、フェイスマスクをした留学生、ソーシャル・ディスタンスなどです。ジェニファーさんからアーカイブへの追加のご連絡を頂いたのは奇遇にもオリンピック開会式の直前でした。以下に同様のプロジェクトとして、アメリカ同時多発テロ発生時の写真アーカイブ・プロジェクトや関東大震災映像アーカイブを追記します。

New Landscape Photography

Thank you to Willson Cummer (Editor/Curator at New Landscape Photography. New York, US) for featuring my work “Wintertag”. I truly appreciate all your kindness.

2010年から地道に運用されているアメリカ・ニューヨークのNew Landscape Photography | An International Art Blogに「Wintertag」シリーズが掲載されました (5 Photos + Brief description)。エディタのウィルソンさんのご意向で「自然と人工物」という組み合わせを主体にシリーズから五枚が選別されています。

2010年に受けたポートフォリオレビュー後、イタリアLandscape Stories、アメリカfraction magazineの他にこのブログをブックマークしていました。教師でもあるウィルソンさんとのやりとりでは、「ソーシャルメディアに圧されてキュレーション・ブログの運営は大変だけれども、長年続けられるのは愛情以外の何ものでもない」と仰られていたのがとても印象的でした。そして僕は2017年、このNew Landscape Photographyで、『While Leaves a Falling…』で著名なNY在住の金山貴宏さんによる東日本大震災に纏わる新たなシリーズ『Shades of the Departed』を知りました。

追記: 2021年、ポートフォリオの受付が停止されました。650名以上のアーティスト作品とステートメントをアーティストと学生のためにアーカイブとして維持すること、素晴らしい11年間だったとのウィルソンさんの言葉がブログ内に記されています。改めて感謝申し上げます。
